Still Grillin'
Gadgets of the Month (BGE)
hammacherschlemmer_60_second_grill_lighter_f.jpg
Normally I reserve our Gadget of the Month segment for the right hand column of our newsletter, but we have got some new toys that knocked our socks off!
The Looftlighter:
Wanna light that charcoal in a matter of mere seconds, without lighter fluid or firestarters? This is the tool for the job.
We find it's greatest advantage is that it starts and stokes the charcoal with super heated air, not flames, vastly lowering the chances of burning up the top gasket of the Big Green Egg. If you have dealt with the frustration of destroying a perfectly good gasket, you know what I mean. Burned multiples? This bad boy will pay for itself! Check out the Youtube video of this cool tool in action (Sorry, it's in Swedish):

BBQ Guru, DigiQ DX:
Listen up, Big Green Egg fans! When Low 'n Slo is the name of the game (and it usually is), this is the product to take all the worries out of temperature control.
Imagine, no more late night tossing about whether or not the pork shoulder temperature is set properly to run throughout the night. No more gusts of wind that can disrupt your finely tuned Egg. Constant electronic monitoring of your precious meal leaving you to relax and enjoy your bbq process.
This package includes a probe for monitoring not only the meat temp, but your pit's temp as well. A powerful 10cfm blower monitors the amount of air feeding the coal, regulating the temperature for as long as you have fuel! After all, cooking should be fun, not a game of worry.

Simple Grilled Chili
Chili can be cooked on a stove-top, but we say WHY? Grilled chili is just as fun and adds that outdoor flavor too! Here is a simple chili recipe to try (or you can use your own) in a dutch oven on the grill. Anything you can cook indoors can be cooked outdoors!
2 pounds ground beef 2 onions, chopped 4 cloves garlic, minced 2 tablespoons chili powder 2 teaspoons salt 2 teaspoons dried oregano4 (14.5 ounce) cans stewed tomatoes 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans with liquid
  1. Combine ground beef, onion, and garlic in dutch oven (or heavy stock pot) directly on cook grid. Cook and stir over medium heat until beef is brown. Drain.
  2. Stir in chili powder, salt, oregano, tomatoes, and tomato sauce; break up tomatoes while stirring. Heat to boiling, reduce heat to simmer, and cover. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 1 hour.
  3. Stir in beans. Simmer, uncovered, for 20 minutes; stir occasionally.
